Kalthia Group Hotels to Partner with Guerdon Modular Buildings to Build Hampton Inn & Suites in San Jose

This represents first Hilton project built using modular construction techniques for Kalthia Group Hotels

Kalthia Group Hotels, a privately owned hospitality management firm that develops and acquires full service hotels, has announced a partnership with Guerdon Modular Buildings, a leading manufacturer of large-scale, complex modular construction projects, to develop a 144-room Hampton Inn & Suites in San Jose, CA. All rooms and finishes will be exactly to Hilton’s specifications, and once completed, will represent the first Kalthia Group Hotel to be built using modular construction processes.

Located at 2116 N. First St., this Hampton Inn & Suites is strategically located close to the San Jose Mineta International Airport. The project, along with an adjacent 146-room Holiday Inn Express project that Kalthia Group Hotels is also developing, represents overdue hospitality development in the San Jose airport submarket. The Hampton Inn & Suites is slated to open to the public in the Summer 2017. Kalthia Group Hotels will be the owner and operator of the completed hotel.

“Our team recognized that San Jose Mineta International Airport has long been underserved by hotels, and our goal was to provide the market with much-needed rooms as fast as possible,” explains Mitesh Kalthia, president of Kalthia Group Hotels. “We chose to use Guerdon’s modular technology because it not only cut our construction time down by four months, it offered a more efficient and higher-quality build. We’ll certainly rely on the modular construction process on future projects.”

The first floor of the five-story hotel will be built using traditional construction. The following four floors will be built from 90 modules built by Guerdon Modular Buildings. As part of the modular construction process, production of the modules began in September 2016 at Guerdon’s manufacturing facility in Boise, Idaho. Each module will be transported to San Jose using flatbed trucks, and will be craned in over the course of two weeks in April 2017. All rooms and finishes will be exactly to Hilton’s specifications and will be indistinguishable from other Hampton Inn & Suites.

David Burkett served as architect of record, and Snowhite served as designer on the San Jose Hampton Inn & Suites project.
