Germany Sees Record Breaking Gains in Prefab and Modular Housing

The number of authorized prefabricated detached and semi-detached houses in Germany is still growing at a faster rate than the number of houses built in the conventional way.

According to information from the Association of German Prefabricated Building (BDF) a total of 60,117 new detached and semi-detached houses received planning permission in Germany from January to the end of July, 11,768 of them of prefabricated construction.

Whereas the prefabricated construction segment was thus able to record growth of 6.8% against a year earlier, the market as a whole registered a reduction of 7%.

The share of the market held by prefabricated construction correspondingly increased to a record figure of 19.6%, rising by 1.8 percentage points since the beginning of the year.

The question is how did they achieve these record gains? Inquiring minds in the US want to know.
