Women Begin Filling Construction's Labor Shortage

At a time where 80% of general contractors across the U.S. are experiencing trouble filling open trade-worker positions, the trade industry is also seeing a growing role for women within construction.

"It's more like construction found me," says Wagman Construction Manager of Special Projects Elizabeth Wilkins.

Wagman Construction Director of Human Resources Jennifer Cramer adds, "Our women are leaders and they're innovative."

However, they're still up against the numbers. Women reflect 51% of the U.S. population, yet the National Association of Women in Construction reports there are over 1.1 million women in construction compared to their 9.9 million male-colleagues.

One of the leaders within their fourth-generation family-owned construction company is Lisa Wagman Glezer. She's the first female owner and executive since the company was established in 1902.
