Lumber Pricing Hits New High

Off-Site construction factory owners and their builders continue to hide sharp objects when they see the latest Random Lengths reports each week and last week was especially hard to read.

Lumber is over $1,500 and it doesn't appear it will slow its upward trend anytime soon.

Lumber prices are up 359% since last year at this time, with a 69% increase taking place since the start of 2021. But the higher prices aren’t trickling down to producers.

Labor shortage at the mills and in the field as well as truckers, wet weather in the South and several other factors is holding back the mill production. The mills don't seem to be sharing in the rapidly rising lumber prices as most of them are only seeing between a 2.5% to 12.5% increase in stumpage prices. A far cry from the 360% lumber has increased in just one year.
